This project entailed the construction of a new building enclosure facility to house electrical power distribution equipment required for the new Midfield Terminal. The building consists of four semi-enclosed transformer vaults occupying a space of 54' x 186' and three adjoining control rooms with an area of 2,300 square feet for a total area of 12,340 square feet.

The underground building foundation and floor system featured a 24" thick reinforced concrete mat slab, which was supported by 214-14" diameter auger pressure grouted piles with depths up to 68 feet. Walls were constructed with reinforced masonry block. The building's roof consisted of steel bar joists utilizing both metal decking and concrete with an aggregate ballasted built-up membrane.

In addition to the construction of the primary structure, this contract also included other ancillary work including installation and construction of encased underground ductbanks, plumbing and HVAC equipment. Other construction activities involved installation of electrical conduit, wiring, lighting, equipment support steel and foundation piers. The exterior finish work featured a weatherproof dryvit-type facade and trim band as well as precast concrete wall panels. Precast girder beams were installed with lengths up to 55 feet.

Due to adjacent concurrent contracts, as well as subsequent follow-up contracts, scheduling and coordination on this project was critical to preventing claims, delays and their associated monetary impact. The project was completed without any of these ramifications.
